Can Crushing & Recycling Enterprise
Turning Cans into Opportunity
Our can crushing enterprise is a community recycling initiative with a difference!
At the North East Community Workshop, the people who attend our day service collect aluminium cans from around local communities. Some are kindly donated by local pubs and businesses, while others are dropped off by neighbours, friends and members of the public. We're especially grateful to those who go out their way to collect cans for us and help keep our enterprise running.
Once the cans arrive at the workshop, our clients take care of the whole process. They wash and dry the cans, prepare them for crushing and then crush them in our very own can crusher under staff supervision. The crushed cans are then collected by a local metal scrap dealer, where they are recycled.
The money raised from the sale of the cans goes straight back into our service. We use it to give the people we support and to help fund activities, experiences and opportunities for our clients.
For us, the enterprise is about much more than recycling. It gives the people we support the opportunity to take on practical responsibilities, work together as a team, contribute to their local community and see a real result from their efforts.
Every can donated makes a difference, helping us reduce waste, recycle locally and most importantly, support the people who attend the workshop.
How can you help you may be asking? If you have drinks cans you would like to donate, we would be delighted to receive them. Whether you are a local business, pub, community group, neighbour or simply someone who wants to support what we do, your cans can make a real difference.
Collect them. Donate them. We will do the rest!
Thank you to everyone in our local community who supports our can crushing enterprise. Your donations, collections and encouragement help make this enterprise possible, and help turn something as simple as an empty can into new opportunities for the people we support.
